埃里克·克莱普顿 在乐坛素有"吉他之神"的美誉，Eric Clapton漫长的音乐历程与居高不坠的名声有一半来自现场精湛的吉他表演.《泪洒天堂》（Tears in Heaven）是为了纪念他年仅4岁的儿子康纳（Conor）而创作并演唱的一首歌曲。1991年3月20日上午11点，由于保姆的不慎，康纳从他母亲位于纽约市的53层公寓的窗户摔落。不幸发生后，克莱普顿几个月都极度悲伤。

1992年，他为电影《迷途枷锁（Rush）》创作了原声带单曲《泪洒天堂》（Tears In Heaven），他唱道：“你还会认得我吗，假如在天堂相遇？/一切是否会依旧，假如在天堂重逢？/跨过那道门，我清楚那里有安宁，/我知道在那天堂，再也不会有眼泪。”任何人都听得出他丧子的巨大悲痛。
